In Which I Mull over the Past and Plan the Future

Wow, I think I'm taking a week off from blogging and then…three months pass. To quote Slaughter-House Five, "so it goes." I don't know, I suppose I've been feeling a sense of ennui lately, lacking motivation to do anything. Maybe I've been sleeping too much? (NOOO, my hypothalamus cries). Though, to be fair, I have been working on one of my longest stories to date (past 60,000 words and still going! Yay!), but…still. Anyway, sorry to neglect you, dearest blog, but you are like a new toy that loses its luster after a few fleeting moments.
Well, to abruptly change the subject as well as get to the gist of this post, I spent the bulk of my New Year's prodding my relatives about their resolutions, yet without stating my own. I must admit that while I used the topic of resolutions more for the purpose of conversation fodder, they are worth pondering. Personally, I find it more helpful to have a tangible goal rather than to say "I want to have more confidence!" or "I want to be less judgmental!" (both of which I need to work on, actually). This year, in terms of cinema, I really want to delve in some specific directors' and actors' filmographies, as well as watch some essentials I've been evading.

Films to watch in 2013:

The Godfather (I know, I know, bad cinephile)
Pulp Fiction
Kill Bill Vols. 1 & 2
Fargo
The Big Lebowski
Do the Right Thing
The Last Picture Show
The Silence of the Lambs
Forrest Gump (before you freak out, I have seen many parts of this on TV, just not the whole thing)
The Exorcist
Doctor Zhivago
Lawrence of Arabia
Modern Times
City Lights
Beetlejuice
Saturday Night Fever
Rope
The Man Who Knew Too Much
Strangers on a Train
Suspicion
Marnie
8 1/2
La Dolce Vita
Of course, there are loads more, but I'll stop here before I start to hyperventilate at the scope of this task. I also want to finish Twin Peaks and the first season of The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

Overall, I think 2012 was a pretty good year. I dealt with some personal problems, got a ton of writing done, read really great books, and survived not only one, but two possible apocalypses! I watched some of my new favorite movies for the first time this year. I turned sixteen. I became a section editor on my school's newspaper, and I learned that it's okay to get grades less than an A-. I've become a bit more comfortable being plain old Ariella. As I finish this post, I realize how relaxing blogging is. Maybe I'll try to make my posts more of a mixture of personal and filmic topics.

Maybe I'll make another resolution to post more this year. We shall see.
